Katy Perry has covered Kanye West & Jay-Z's song, 'N****s In Paris'.
Katy Perry has covered Kanye West and Jay-Z's rap hit, 'N****s In Paris.'
The 27-year-old singer brought out the surprise cover on BBC's Radio 1 Live Lounge, rapping over a semi-acoustic version of the hip hop duo's 2011 club banger from Watch The Throne.
The cover sounds a bit thin, but it's a valiant effort from a singer who is better known for songs with lyrics like "baby, you're a firework."
Maybe it's because West and Jay-Z performed it 168 times over the course of a single North American tour, but "N****s In Paris" has become a real pop culture phenomenon. A mashup between Woody Allen's "Midnight In Paris" and the song took over the internet just last month, and Alec Baldwin joked of doing an "In Montauk" remix.
And Perry is not the only artist to cover the song. Yasiin Bey, the artist formerly known as Mos Def, recorded a social thought anthem that he titled "N****s In Poorest," in which he commemorated Malcolm X and decried Prince William for not "putting some black up in his family."
Perry is also cooking up another big hit. Her best friend in the industry, Rihanna, toldThe Hollywood Reporter that the two will release a big collaboration.
What do you think of Katy's rapping?
