Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey
Lady Gaga and talk show host Oprah were among the winners at the just concluded Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) media awards held in New York.
The event was hosted by ‘Glee’ star Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera.
The producers of new musical series ‘Smash’ received the top honour, the Vito Russo Award, which is named after the gay activist.
Producer Neil Meron and Craig Zadan stepped on stage to accept the honour as Zadan declared ‘Being gay was part of who I am, so it impacts the work that we do.
Meanwhile, Hawey Weinstein presented Katy Butler a high school student a special honour for her anti- bullying efforts in the movie ‘Bully’.
Butler has been spearheading a campaign to convince censors at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to lower the R-rating of Weinstein’s upcoming documentary ‘Bully’ to PG thereby allowing youngsters to see the film in theatre.
Other winners at GLAAD Media Award include independent film ‘Pariah’ (Outstanding Film in Limited Release), HBO’s Cinema Verite (Best TV Movie or Miniseries award) and Oprah Winfrey (Best Talk Show Episode).
The 23rd Annual GLAAD media awards was held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 in New Jersey, New York City, USA.
