Robbers kill five in Anambra

Five members of a vigilance group in Oba, Anambra State were killed and seven injured by armed robbers on Wednesday.
The robbers were said to have trailed the vigilantes to a spot where they confronted them at the 8th Mile Junction and opened fire on them.
A source said the vigilantes were on patrol when the robbers in a black Sports Utility Vehicle SUV (Infinity Jeep) suddenly stopped and opened fire on them, killing five while the sixth escaped.
Another source said the robbers were more than five, adding that about three members of the gang were at different strategic places, watching out for either the police or any other external force.
According to sources, the only survivor said to be the driver of the vehicle used by the group for their patrol escaped with severe bullet wounds. He is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
It was learnt that seven passersby also sustained bullet wounds during the operation.
Meanwhile, shop owners quickly closed business for the day in the entire Oba following the incident.
