Following a long battle with cancer, the legendary Donna Summer, otherwise known as the Queen of Disco, passed away this morning. She was 63.
No cause of death was given, but TMZ reports Summer had been battling cancer.
Following the news of Summer’s passing, the singer’s family released a statement saying that they are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.
“While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy,” the statement reads. “Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time.”
Throughout her career, Summer won five Grammy awards and earned 17 nominations. Her influence is widely acknowledged and she produced a number of hits including “Hot Stuff,” “Love to Love You Baby” and “She Works Hard For the Money.”
Summer was in Florida at the time of her death.
