Police deny killing Ugo 5 days after his wedding

The Lagos State Police Command has denied that a police officer was responsible for the killing of Ugochukwu Ozuah, five days after his wedding.  Ngozi Braide, State Police Command spokesperson, at the weekend, claimed that the deceased "was killed by armed robbers".  Ozuah's death has provoked a public outcry after his friend, Erikefe Omene, an eye witness, narrated that Ozuah, 36, was shot dead by the police.  The incident reportedly happened at the Gbagada area of the state, close to the UPS Bus Stop along Oworonsoki-Oshodi Expressway, on Thursday, September 20.  Ozuah had just returned from his honeymoon at Badagry, following his marriage to Joan, his girlfriend of two years, on September 15.
Omene, who came in from the United Kingdom for the couple's wedding, said that the incident happened when the deceased was dropping him off following his visit to their Oke-Olowo Estate residence.
"About 10pm, I told Ozuah I wanted to leave, so he said he will drop me off at the junction in his Honda CRV. As we approached the Expressway, there was an ash/blue car that stopped around the same time to drop someone, because it was dark, I did not know the make of the car.  So a man came out of the car which was now parked closed with (sic) ours. Policemen approached the said car and I thought it was just a routine check. One of the policemen said, ‘Who’s there? Who goes there?’ and shot Ozuah, who then fell flat on the ground. I and the others scampered for safety behind Ozuah car.  later ran back into the estate to inform Ozuah's wife about what happened."
He said Ozuah was later rushed to the hospital where he died.
However, his corpse has since been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Morgue.
