OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK LAYS OFF 30 EMPLOYEES

Oprah
Media proprietor and talk show host Oprah Winfrey’s struggling television network, ‘Oprah Winfrey Network’ (OWN) has laid off 30 of its workers, the Network announced, Monday.
The decision to let off one-fifth of their staff which includes two high level executives was a ‘tough one’ but economics of a start-up cable network didn’t fit with the company’s cost structure, Winfrey said in a statement.
As CEO, I have a responsibility to chart the course for long-term success for the network. To wholly achieve that long-term success, this was a necessary next step’, Winfrey said.
The company was launched on January 1.
Winfrey ran her self-titled syndicated talk show ‘Oprah’ for 25 seasons beginning in 1986, before concluding in 2011. It is the highest-rated talk show in American television history.
