Pastor jailed for duping three young men in Nasarawa

A Federal High Court sitting in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa state has sentenced a pastor, Ayuba Bitrus Bakkat to seven years imprisonment for duping a three young men, who were seeking for a job at Nigeria Security Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
The three unemployed youths were Amarachi Ugbwueze, Philip Adejoh and Mr. Andrew Elem through the connection of a one Jonathan Ebewie.

Pastor Bakkat who is heading one of the new generation churches in the northern region was charged with three counts by Independent Corrupt Pratices and Other Related Offences [ICPC in 2011].
Bakkat collected N70, 000 from Obinna, Adejoh, N55,000 and also received about N80,000 from Elem.
Disclosing this reporters in Abuja, the ICPC Head of Public Enlightenment, Mr. Mike Sowe the cleric assured the three persons that he would assist them to get a job at NSCDC if they could pay those money.
ICPC said the transaction between the pastor and his client, Mr. Ugwueze took place at Kari-Kari junction, New Karu, Nasarawa State in the presence of one Mr. Jonathan Ebewie, who according to the commission is now at large.
Delivering the judgment on Friday March 9, Justice S. Aboki convicted the accused on all the three charges “and sentenced him to seven years on each count, to run concurrently.” The judge also ordered the pastor to pay restitution of the monies collected from the witnesses, who came to testify.
